Pretty Studio Additions

I have been wanting a salesman size dress form for ages.  Recently I did a show and one of the vendors had my dream come true.  She wasn't interested in parting with it {can't blame her there} so my search continued, that is until last week.  I found the exact form that I wanted in New Jersey.  Unfortunately her neck was broken in shipping so my dear father in law performed some mechanical surgery on her.  She's now probably better than when she was shipped.

I'm just crazy about this Sen-Sen Gum display box from 1902.  What cute packaging!

I took some time last Sunday to hang some pretty labels on all of the baskets in my studio...

I also created some inserts for a couple of my clear storage boxes just to add some interest.  I only did this for the boxes with stuff inside that I'm happy to not see.  Check out that aDORable crown with pins in it.  It's from Kimberlee Edgar of Edgar & Edgar. 

At this past months flea market I bought all of the wooden spools that a vendor had.  I never saw any like this.  Such a simple design and they hold so much...

And life is so funny.  I originally saw this old salesmans floss box display at Colleen Moody's.  I completely fell in love with it and have looked for one from time to time but to no avail.  Recently I was thrilled to find one at a flea market and then I found another one a week later.  So...I bought them both so that if anyone I know wants one I have an extra :)

Tonight I'm making salted caramels.  Wish me luck, it's my first time using the whole candy thermometer and all.  Apparently I'll have to stir the caramel for 30 minutes...they better be fabulous!

New Threads For An Old Dummy

I was recently shopping with my Mom and a friend when we saw a miniature mannequin with a cute tiny pink tutu. It was so cute I decided to put one on my dress form. With a 4 year old girl it didn't take but a moment of digging to find an old one from a former Halloween costume. Up until now I had glittered letters by Wendy Addison tied around the waist. I still wanted my letters tied around the waist so I just tied them on top.



The flea market is this Sunday and I can't wait to find some great stuff and devour a crepe! I'll be sure and post pictures of all that I pick up.

Retro Rack

You might recognize this retro rack from my last post. I realized that I never posted a picture of it. It was my best find at last months flea market. Originally black, I brought it home and painted it with my favorite hammered metal spray paint. My friend Val wasn't as excited about it as I was but I knew it would look great in my art room. Two shelves and lots of metal to clip stuff too? What's not to like. Now I want to find one for my bathroom!

We're Getting Ready for Halloween

I bought a few things this week to add to the slim pickins we had for Halloween decorations. Last night my 4 year old and I had fun bringing some fall into the house. We started with these cute teensy pumpkin branches we got from Costco...



We bought a big vase at Ikea to put them in...



At the grocery store we picked up several bags of mini pumpkins in every color they had. She stacked several in an oversized vase as a centerpiece for our dining room table...



We found this round place mat at Target to go under the vase...



When we were all done with that we strung up a Martha Stewart garland on the mantle over some dingy cheesecloth I had...



Really cute...the "blood" is sparkly...



When we got the banner we also grabbed some spiders to put on the mirror in the dining room...



I found this cloche behind a box of Cheezits so we put some pumpkins under it in the kitchen...



When Grace got tired of helping to decorate I had made it into my studio where I strung up two banners...



Added some white pumpkins to a tiny chair...



And stuck a few spiders on the mirror here too...



We were excited to decorate with all we'd collected in the past few weeks even though it's a bit early. By the time the 31st rolls around I'll probably be ready to pull everything down after we come in from trick or treating!!

The Best Mess

I cleaned up can you tell? I'm busily getting ready for Tinsel & Treasures next Saturday...I promised photos of what I'm working on and they're forthcoming!

This Cart Is Full!

I'm not sure I can cram anything more into the shopping cart I use to store all of the offerings I sell during my workshops. I've been busy packaging up this and that and a few flea market finds. One of the items, the doll head, is for my friend Carole. She wanted me to be on the lookout at the flea for one for her studio and I found one. I've also added lots more music paper from the 40's as well as the most adorable tiny metal cameras from the 50's. I made one into an ornament for my mini tree and I love it. I didn't think to snap a picture of it to show you but I will this weekend when I post again.

Inspiration Board

This was an extraordinarily busy week for me so I never quite made it to my table to work on new projects but I did take some time to pin up a bunch of my favorite items on my inspiration board. These are things I've made, things I've made in classes, gifts from friends and bits of ephemera that I love.



I'm always on the lookout for pretty storage. I found these great boxes at Home Goods. I also found the little metal basket that was perfect for spools of thread. When I bought it it was a mustard yellow but I brought it home and shot it down with my favorite hammered metal spray paint.



My son just came in with two big bags of lemons from the neighbor. The littles are napping so we're going to make some lemonade. My neighbor always laughs when I tell her she's got the best lemons in town, lol. She's got a lemon tree next to an orange tree and we think they've grafted. I've lost quite a bit of tooth enamel to that tree.

I have been wanting to make some jewelry lately so I've gathered up all my old pieces and purchased some new. Pieces will be available at my home studio classes. March's home studio class is sold out by the way, thank you ladies!

I Knew I'd Love Them

I realized I hadn't shared a picture of my inspiration board and chalk/magnetic board I posted about a couple of weeks ago. I LOVE them. They are on the wall opposite my dressers & cubbies. The room needed something dark, something to balance out all the cream and soft colors. {I know, I need to iron the burlap pockets, it's bugging me too}.

I had some dark baskets in the closet that I swapped out in a few of the cubbies to sprinkle some of the dark color to that side of the room.



I'm crazy about this little Valentines box that I received from a special friend. A friend that is very kind. A friend that I always enjoy visiting with.



I had several emails about my post earlier this week when I mentioned a camping/art weekend. I will very likely be picking a weekend in June {before kids are out of school, graduations, etc.}. I'll announce a date soon and get a head count. Maybe my friend Valerie will organize a fun swap of some sort. And if she wants to go too maybe my friend Connie F. will fix us up with a pretty make n' take. I can smell the BBQ and see the sun sparkling on my scissors as I type....
